Soulection Radio Tributes Afrobeats, Afrofusion and Alté Music

Soulection radio’s Joe Kay recently released their first ever Soulection playlist exclusively dedicated to afrobeats, afrofusion and alté sounds on Apple Music’s Beats 1 during Coachella.

Joe Kay

Formed in 2011 in Los Angeles, Soulection was started by close friends Joe Kay and Andre Power. Their humble efforts to create a platform for young, emerging beatsmiths organically evolved into a global movement. Soulection is now one of the top radio shows on Apple Music Beats 1. Their weekly sessions stream a curated mix of electronic meets soul tracks and artists across 100 countries.

In episode 403, Kay focuses mainly on Nigeria’s music space–with a particular focus on Nigerian movements that blend various afro genres. Kay shouted out the likes of Tunji Balogun at RCA who signed acts like WizKid and Davido, content creator Amarachi Nwosu and artists like Santi, Odunsi and Tay Iwar. Additionally, he played tunes from Wiz, Davido, Afro B to BOJ, Teni, Nonso Amadi, Mr Eazi and Juls.

So what does this mean for us? What is extremely impressive is how Kay educated himself on the sounds, bringing them together so cohesively. Honestly, this is a large stride in the music space and reveals a time where African music is expanding and building bridges globally.

Although the episode was exclusively on Apple Music for a week, it is now also available on Soundcloud. Tune in to the show using the links below:
