Joeboy’s Debut Album, “Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic” is Finally Here

I recently joined three other members of ONETRIBEMAG and one special guest artist from Nigeria on a zoom call with emPawa Africa & Banku Music artist, Joeboy, to discuss his debut album. Somewhere Between Beauty and Magic (#SBMM), is a powerful title that he said he got from his mixing engineer, Oxygen Mix, who also titled his 2019 EP, Love & Light. He told us “The plan was to come up with a title that best describes love, without actually using the word love, hence Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic. Because love is a perfect blend of beauty and magic.”

The listening session proved what we all had begun to suspect of Joeboy, he is truly the next African Pop Star just as his recently released documentary stated. #SBBM was a refreshing album littered with beautifully layered production from frequent collaborators such as BeatsByKO, legendary E-Kelly, Dera, Killertunes, and a host of others. The Young Legend, as he calls himself, showed maturity and growth since we last heard a body of work from him. Songs like “Consent” & “Sugar Mama” have a special, conscious message to convey for fans and new listeners alike all while still being enjoyable.
